EPG HOW-TO

TV-EPG is a beautiful EPG (electronic program guide) created by Kenny (aka fasttech). It uses partial real estate of your desktop, does not have any window borders and has beautiful translucency feature that allows you to see your desktop/TV screen through its see-through grid (see picture below). It works very nicely with 5 key buttons - Left,Right, Up, Down and Enter and consequently you can use it with an infrared remote that has those 5 buttons. The EPG is reported to be a good companion for Creative’s Video Blaster Digital VCR card. Since Creative was not smart enough to include a EPG to go along with their otherwise smart hardware, all of us, the DVCR card users, are excited about several different EPGs written by talented individuals.TV-EPG is the newest and one of the most feature rich EPGs.

This website is my attempt to help a new user of DVCR up and running with the TV-EPG program so that he/she can schedule programs to record with a few clicks. All you have to do is follow 3 steps:

  1. Install and setup the TV-EPG program
  2. Setup a perl script to take the program information from TV-EPG’s grid and store it in DVCR’s sheduler
  3. Verify that the chosen program gets into DVCR’s schedule

Follow the links on the left for each step.
